Wigfield Farm raises money for local foodbank

Raffle prize with easter eggs, toys and games

Our Wigfield Farm campus has raised money for Barnsley Foodbank Partnership who co-ordinate a borough-wide provision.

Led by Church Action on Poverty in Barnsley, the Wombwell-based foodbank provides emergency food and support to people facing hardship, with 11,429 individuals receiving food parcels between January 2023 and March 2023.

“By raising money, rather than collecting food, the foodbank can buy the supplies they need for the food parcels they make.”

Two members of the Wigfield Farm team, Lindsey Robinson, Activity Worker; and Tanya Dobrovolskis, Café Team Leader, planned and led a two-week long raffle, raising £340.

The raffle was based in the entrance area of the farm, with staff, students and the public purchasing raffle tickets for £1 to win a multitude of prizes, including a hamper, cuddly toys, and family day passes.

Lindsey Robinson, Activity Worker at the Wigfield Farm campus, said: “We wanted to give back to the local community, and help people who may need it.

“We chose Barnsley Foodbank Partnership because we want to help local people in crisis. By raising money, rather than collecting food, the foodbank can buy the supplies they need for the food parcels they make.”

Wigfield Farm is a working farm and visitor attraction in Worsbrough on the edge of Barnsley with over 60 species of animals including meerkats, highland cows, and Shetland pony. It is also home to our Animal Management and Horticulture courses.
