New and returning students had the opportunity to get involved with our 2023 Fresher’s Event.
The events, organised by the Student Voice Team, allowed students to start off the new academic year with a bang with lots of fun and games, whilst getting the chance to get to know the College and what Barnsley had to offer.
Starting at Barnsley Sixth Form College, A Level students were welcomed to their induction day with retro games, a photo booth, a dance mat, candy floss and a DJ.
Direct Entry was next up with our 14-16-year-old full-time students at Park Road campus getting involved with lots of games and taking turns to cycle on a bike and make ice cream.
Next up was the Fresher’s Event held at the at the Old Mill Lane campus. Students based here, the SciTech Digital Innovation Hub and the STEM Centre enjoyed candy floss, hoopla, riding a rodeo bull, DJ and Barnsley Hospice’s vintage pop-up shop.
Sport, Travel and Tourism, Public Services and Construction students all enjoyed their Fresher’s Event at our Honeywell Sports campus. They experienced riding a rodeo bull, table tennis, candy floss and a DJ.
The 2023 Fresher’s Event finished with an event at Wigfield Farm. Animal Care, Agriculture and Horticulture students. They candy floss, a DJ and lots of games.
At each event, there were stalls for promoting the support on offer to students, including the Enterprise department’s iTrust initiative and Barnsley College Enterprising Futures (BCEF) fund, Job Shop, Health and Wellbeing, The Library and Financial Support.
In addition, local support services and businesses in Barnsley, including Kooth, Virgin Money, Barnsley Youth Council, Barnsley Samaritans, NHS Barnsley Talking Therapies, The Glassworks, Urban Burgers and many more all had promotional stalls were they could meet the students and showcase their products and services.
