Potential new students will have the opportunity to find out about the wide range of courses on offer at the Barnsley College, Barnsley Sixth Form College and Barnsley College Higher Education at our face-to-face open day on Thursday 2 December, 4.00pm to 7.00pm.
Rated outstanding by Ofsted, Barnsley College and Barnsley Sixth Form College offer education for everyone, including full and part-time vocational courses, A Levels, T Levels (Technical qualifications) and apprenticeships in a wide range of subjects.
The College offers a range of vocational courses in subject areas from Business to Bricklaying; Hairdressing to Healthcare; and Catering and Hospitality to Computing and Digital Media. Many of our students progress onto further study at some of the country’s top universities including Birmingham, Durham, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Oxford and Sheffield.
For those who prefer a more hands-on approach to learning, then an apprenticeship could be the perfect choice. Apprenticeships allow students to earn a wage whilst gaining industry-specific knowledge and skills by working alongside experienced members of staff within their chosen sector. We offer over 75 apprenticeship programmes from Level 2 to 6 in industries such as Beauty Therapy, Leadership and Management, Sport, Childcare and Education Professions and Warehousing and Logistics.
T Levels allow students to gain on-the-job experience whilst gaining qualifications equivalent to three A Levels. Studied 80% in the classroom and 20% in the workplace, students learn common workplace skills and the technical knowledge specific to their chosen industry or occupation. T Level courses are available to study in Childcare and Teacher Training; Construction; Digital; and Health and Social Care. From September 2022, we hope to offer two more T Level courses in Finance and Accounting and Engineering and Manufacturing.
Prospective students who want to study higher-level programmes including foundation and honours degrees, Higher Apprenticeships, HNCs, HNDs and professional business and leadership courses can do so at Barnsley College Higher Education. Whether you have an interest in childcare, sport, fine art or popular music, we offer courses in a wide range of subjects.
Barnsley College Higher Education gets great results! In 2019/20 all our degree students got a 2:2 or above and 82% of our degree students received a first, so whilst you may be staying local, you can certainly go far. Also, it is ranked as the best South Yorkshire Higher Education college for student satisfaction in the 2020/21 National Student Survey, with an overall student satisfaction score of 84%, which is 8% above the national average.
Students who choose to study at Barnsley College Higher Education benefit from smaller class sizes and competitive course fees. Many courses can be studied around your existing work and family commitments too.
