We Marked Wear It Red Day with Special Guests

Our staff and students proudly came together to support Wear It Red Day, as part of the national Show Racism the Red Card campaign.

Organised by our Enterprise team, we demonstrated solidarity against racism through a day filled with meaningful activities and important conversations.

“This event was about more than just the activities—it was a collective stand against racism, promoting a future built on equality and unity.”

The event featured a visit from the Barnsley FC U21 squad, who engaged with students and staff, showing their support for the cause and adding an exciting buzz to the day.

Alongside them, our talented Catering and Hospitality students contributed by baking and selling delicious cupcakes, and our Hair and Beauty students offered nail services and face painting.

Throughout the day, students had the chance to participate in the fastest football dribble challenge, which brought some friendly competition and highlighted the unifying power of sports.

We also celebrated Black History Month with a collection of books that shone a light on key figures and stories from Black history, giving students the opportunity to reflect on important cultural issues.

The day was further supported by visits from South Yorkshire Police, Barnsley City of Sanctuary, and ELSH, who all contributed to the message of inclusivity and community.

Lucy Evans, Cultural Capital and Personal Development Coordinator, who organised the event, said: “Wear It Red Day provided the perfect platform for our students and staff to take a stand against racism – it’s not only about raising awareness but also about fostering a strong sense of community and understanding.

“The activities throughout the day, from football challenges to discussions on Black History Month, allowed us to reflect on the importance of unity and the role we all play in creating a more equal society.”
