Teaching staff hear from industry experts in preparation for new year

More than 300 of our teaching staff gathered for a staff development day in preparation for the new teaching year.

 

The ‘Explore Education’ event was hosted at Barnsley Metrodome and speakers included Isabella Wallace, an award-winning educator and author of best-selling teaching books, and Jenny Jarvis, Interim CEO of the Education and Training Foundation (ETF).

 

Staff took part in interactive training activities and learned about the most recent teaching techniques and alternative methods.

“It was a really positive day and great to engage with an ETF Society for Education and Training corporate partner who dedicates time and care to develop their workforce.”

 

Jenny Jarvis, Interim CEO of the ETF, said: “It was a privilege to talk to the teaching staff at Barnsley College about the vital role that teachers have in developing their students so that they are ready to play their part in making a positive contribution to their communities and wider society.

Rachel James, Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning at College, added: “To have our teaching staff gathered together receiving such helpful insights into new teaching techniques has been brilliant.

 

“The day was invaluable and has ensured we are more than prepared to kick off the new academic year on the right foot.

 

“I would like to extend a special thanks to Isabella and Jenny for sharing their extensive teaching and personal development knowledge with our staff.”
