Students take part in Read with Pride during Pride Month

Our students have participated in Read with Pride, an initiative set up by Dulwich College Middle and Upper School’s Wodehouse Library, to raise awareness and celebrate LGBTQIA+ Young Adult (YA) fiction during Pride Month.

“It’s incredibly important to take part in Read with Pride because we have a diverse audience here in the library and diverse readers and we want everyone to feel represented.”

Alongside 42 other schools and colleges across the country, we created a relay of LGBTQIA+ YA books on Twitter and Facebook to educate and inspire students and young adults between Monday 5 June and Friday 30 June.

Each day, colleges and schools posted a photo of a different LGBTQIA+ YA book with staff or students reading the book with a mention of the next school in the caption to pass the baton.

Our book for the event was one of Wodehouse Library’s most requested LGBTQIA+ YA titles, Six Times We Almost Kissed (And One Time We Did) by Tess Sharpe, a slow-burn queer romance about two girls who are DEFINITELY not friends, but they keep almost kissing.

Abby Barker, Librarian at the College, said: “It’s incredibly important to take part in Read with Pride because we have a diverse audience here in the library and diverse readers and we want everyone to feel represented.”
