Students crack the case during Business Industry Week

Business students were inspired after attending a series of workshops – including a staged crime scene – set up by industry professionals.

The presentations took place as part of the Business Industry Week, an event designed to allow our students to explore the full breadth of their chosen industry and develop the skills they need to help them progress into employment or Higher Education.

Over the course of the week, we heard from speakers from a broad range of backgrounds. This included a presentation on Marketing and Events Management from Re:Vamp Marketing; Careers talks from local entrepreneurs Leslie Hurst and John Lamerton; and a hands-on CSI experience from forensic consultancy, Think Forensic.

As a result, students were inspired to re-think where a Business qualification could take them.

Sue Procter, Company Director at Think Forensic, said: “We had some really good feedback from the students – several of them came to talk to us independently and discuss career opportunities.

“Some had questions about university and qualifications whilst others were interested to hear about what options are available aside from Higher Education. Both groups got involved in the interactive tasks and we enjoyed being with them.”

The sessions were organised by Julia Davies, Talent United and Enterprise Officer at Barnsley College. Julia added: “We were thrilled to welcome such a wide variety of our Talent United partners to speak as part of Business Industry Week.

“One of our main goals as a College is to ensure that students are career-ready, well-rounded individuals, particularly when they are leaving us to begin work or progress onto Higher Education. Events like this help us to achieve that goal.”
