What is a society?

A society is a term we use for a group of students who share a common interest or hobby.

A society is set up by students for students and gives you the opportunity to come together with others and practice your interest in a welcoming and fun environment.

A society can be based around anything from sport, music and gaming to cards, tea and business.

Being part of a society also looks great on your CV or when applying to university.

Good news stories about our societies:

College friends set up sign language group to help fellow student

Take a look below at what our students say…

Nathan Creber - BSL Society

“The responsibilities I have in the society are to keep everyone motivated, to organize meetings and share quick videos or posts to help others learn sign language. I chose to set up this society to help a student who is hard of hearing on my course.”

Emily Chadburn - The Debate Society

“As president, I chose to be part of this society due to my love of debating and I felt it would have a positive impact on my future career and education. I worked alongside College to set up the debate society as I was informed there was one a few years ago and so I decided to start it up again.

“I absolutely recommend being in a society of any nature as they help you meet other like minded people and enhance your people and communication skills.”
