While the timing of certain opportunities can’t be guaranteed, the college ensures dedicated support to help you reach your objectives.

A range of flexible working opportunities:

Your manager will be open to making necessary adjustments and considering each request carefully, ensuring that flexible arrangements align with both staff preferences and the college’s operational requirements.

Autonomy, empowerment and accountability:

At Barnsley College, staff are trusted to have input on how they execute their duties for maximum impact. We encourages taking risks, exploring new ideas, and identifying areas for improvement. With clear objectives and responsibilities, staff are supported in achieving their goals. We pride ourselves on fostering an environment where challenging the status quo to drive improvements is welcomed and supported.

Short and long term development commitments:

At Barnsley College we are dedicated to supporting both the short and long-term development goals of all our staff. Whether you want to learn a new skill, gain a qualification, or enhance your abilities in your current role, we are committed to providing all the necessary support and resources to help you succeed and excel.

Access to experiencing work in a range of areas:

Fancy branching out? We offer staff the opportunity to gain experience in areas beyond their current roles. With access to a diverse range of departments and activities, the college can arrange work shadowing and provide exposure to different fields. This allows staff to broaden their skills and knowledge by exploring various aspects of the college’s operations.

Value and behaviour led organisation:

Barnsley College is a values-driven organisation where staff can actively contribute to transforming lives and impacting the community. We emphasise a Caring, Supportive, Genuine, Respectful, and Aspirational environment, ensuring that these core values are felt in every aspect of work.

Reward and recognition:

Here at Barnsley College we value the hard work of our staff and we want you to feel that when you come into work! We regularly recognise the effort and achievements of our staff both formally and informally, including peer and senior manager acknowledgment. Successes are celebrated through annual events that honour college, team, and individual achievements.

Having your voice heard at every level:

Our Executive Team is accessible through regular surgeries where staff can present ideas and proposals for discussion and potential support. We conduct frequent surveys to gather staff feedback, ensuring transparency by sharing the results. We also encourage open dialogue between staff and managers regarding the working environment, workload, and career aspirations, with formal processes in place to facilitate and prioritize these discussions.

Comprehensive wellbeing support:

At Barnsley College, managers are trained to help address and identify your wellbeing concerns effectively. We provide access to a variety of services, including counselling, mediation, and a dedicated wellbeing app. Our extensive suite of wellbeing policies covers topics such as Menopause, Menstruation, and Alcohol and Drug support, alongside options for paid leave related to volunteering and other personal needs.
