Land Based Students Soar with Birds of Prey

Our Animal Care students were treated to a captivating and educational experience with Birds of Prey from SMJ Falconry.

The event, organised by The Enterprise team, allowed our Further Education, Higher Education and adult Animal Care students to get up close and personal with the majestic creatures, providing them with a unique learning opportunity.

“We organised the opportunity to enhance students’ learning and foster a deeper appreciation for wildlife conservation.”

The students had the chance to observe and interact with various species of Birds of Prey, learning about their habitats, behaviours and importance in the ecosystem. The hands-on experience was designed to enrich their understanding of the birds and see them in flight.

When asked, students described the event as ‘memorable’, ‘a rewarding experience’, ‘something I’d never done’ and ‘a great opportunity to learn first hand from an experienced Birds of Prey handler.’

Lee Perks, Enterprise Team Leader who organised the event, said: “We worked with the Land Based department to organise an enrichment opportunity for the students to enhance their learning and foster a deeper appreciation for wildlife conservation.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to Chris Johnson from SMJ Falconry who came to our Wigfield Farm campus with multiple Birds of Prey and took the time to speak to each student and answer every question they had about the birds.”
