Former Barnsley College Travel and Tourism student, Jessica Crossland, has returned back to college to teach on the course she studied ten years ago.
Jessica spent time working as a TUI Travel Advisor and Holiday Representative before joining Virgin Atlantic Cabin Crew, where she gained confidence in delivering exceptional customer service, demonstrating emergency equipment and safety procedures, dealing with emergencies, producing written flight reports after completing a journey and much more.
“The course left me with positive lasting memories and gave me a passion for inspiring the younger generation. I recommend the college as it gave me the framework and confidence to succeed in the Travel and Tourism industry and the key skills in preparation to apply for TUI and Virgin Atlantic.”
Now she wants to give back to the place her career started, by teaching the next generation of Travel and Tourism experts. Jessica is currently completing her Level 6 Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at Barnsley College, where she is learning to plan and assess learning, the role of theory and the use of evidence informed practice and exploring contemporary issues in post compulsory education.
Jessica said: “The Travel and Tourism course was the catalyst for my career. The college gave me my first steps into the industry where I gained knowledge and understanding around the profession and this inspired me to pursue this further when I left as I progressed to Higher Education in Travel and Tourism Management.
“The course left me with positive lasting memories and gave me a passion for inspiring the younger generation. I recommend the college as it gave me the framework and confidence to succeed in the Travel and Tourism industry and the key skills in preparation to apply for TUI and Virgin Atlantic. Now my tutors are my co-workers and they are more than happy to continue supporting me through my PGCE.”
