Metal Jewellery Making – Progression and Development – Part-time (Wednesday Evening)

This course is planning to start on 15 January and will run every Wednesday for 8 weeks between 6.00pm and 8.30pm (term-time only).

Entry requirements

Students must have attended 1 term of the beginner course available at the college OR be able to provide a sample of work they have done in the past.

Course overview

Advance your metal jewellery making skills in this progression course, designed for those with prior experience or who have completed our beginner course. Perfect techniques with materials like brass, copper, and silver, and create personalised, wearable designs. Build on your creativity and craftsmanship to expand your portfolio of unique pieces. This hands-on course deepens your knowledge, helping you refine your style and master more complex jewellery-making processes.

Course content

During the course you will be encouraged to explore your own projects and ideas. You will be inspired to generate projects that enable you to develop the core metalworking skills; cutting, shaping, finishing, and soldering metal, all to a high standard. In your projects you will be encouraged to use a variety of processes and techniques such as ringmaking, stone setting, casting, press forming, etching, metal embossing, chain making and wire work.

The class is taught in a specialist 3D design workshop with dedicated bench space for jewellery. Where appropriate you will be making your jewellery in silver and will incur additional costs for silver of between £10 and £50 depending upon the size and quantity of the work you produce. The use of base metals such as copper and brass are free.

You will work in a dedicated silversmithing workshop and all equipment will be provided. A small charge is incurred for any silver you need.

How much does the course cost?

This course costs £230. There is no funding available for this course, so all learners must pay the full fee. You may also need to purchase additional materials to cover the costs of your jewellery.
