This course is planning to start on 15 January and will run every Wednesday for 8 weeks between 6.00pm and 8.30pm (term-time only).
A general interest in jewellery making, this course is suitable for beginners.
There is no qualification with this course.
In this jewellery making course you will learn the fundamental skills to start creating your own unique jewellery. You will explore some of the varied core techniques and processes of jewellery making with the aim of producing wearable items for you to keep. You will be encouraged to add your own creative flair by adapting any design elements to create jewellery with your own aesthetic. Having learnt and practiced some of the techniques of jewellery making you will have the basis to continue to explore this wide ranging, practical and creative subject and build a unique portfolio of work.
The course will comprise of 3-4 projects each resulting in a finished wearable piece of jewellery. The first project will be aimed at learning the fundamental skills of jewellery making; cutting, shaping and finishing metal as well as silver soldering. These skills will be used and developed in all projects.
In the following projects you will use a variety of processes and techniques such as Ring making, stone setting, casting, press forming, etching, roll printing, chain making and wire work. Returning students or students with previous experience will be welcome to join in with projects adapting the complexity of the making to their own ability. They will also have the opportunity to work on their own ideas.
The class is taught in a specialist 3D design workshop with dedicated bench space for jewellery. Where appropriate you will be making your jewellery in silver and will incur additional costs for silver of between £10 and £50 depending upon the size and quantity of the work you produce. The use of copper and brass are free.

This course costs £230. There is no funding available for this course, so all learners must pay the full fee. You may also need to purchase additional materials to cover the costs of your jewellery.
