There will be assessment windows throughout your the study programme where your knowledge, understanding and practical skills will be assessed under exam conditions. You will achieve either a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade.
This course will commence in September 2024 and will take one year to complete.
You will need to hold two GCSEs in English and Maths. These must be at Grade 3 or above.
Level 2 Plastering Technical Certificate.
FCON
This course provides essential skills in plastering and bricklaying, including building walls, piers, fireplaces, and chimneys. Students will learn to read construction drawings, plan and organize projects, and price construction work. Practical tasks include plastering, fixing dry lining, and creating in-situ moulds. The course also develops employability skills like teamwork, communication, CV writing, and self-management, critical for future careers.
The duration of the course covers the following units in technical knowledge understanding and practical training and development in the following areas:
Introduction to health and safety in construction
Preparing background surfaces and applying finishing coats
Producing components from moulds
Principles of building construction, information and communication
Apply plastering materials to interiors
Fix dry lining and plasterboards to interiors
Principles of organising, planning and pricing construction work
Running in-situ moulds

Basic stationery for the classroom activities.
There are 5 points of PPE required in the workshop at all times. Each student is expected to provide their own safety boots and the department will provide the other 4 pieces:

Upon completion, you could progress onto a Level 3 Plastering T Level or a Plastering Apprenticeship.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.
If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which can be added to your study programme.
If you’re aged 19 or above and don’t hold a a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths we can help. We offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
