Photography for Beginners Part-time

This course next starts on 14 January. Classes will run every Tuesday between 6.00pm and 8.30pm for 8 weeks, term-time only.

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements for this course other than you must be over 16 years old.

You will achieve

Although no formal qualification will be achieved, you will achieve invaluable experience and be awarded with a Barnsley College certificate.

Course overview

Unleash your creativity and take the first step toward snapping the perfect shot with our introduction to Photography course. Master key DSLR functions, composition, lighting, and the Rule of Thirds while exploring crop sensors and settings. Learn to edit photos using industry-standard software like Adobe Photoshop. Perfect for capturing unforgettable moments, applying new skills in daily life, or starting your journey into professional photography.

Course content

A series of studio sessions taking beginner photographers through all the basics of photography to improve skills, knowledge, and composition.

On this course you will be introduced to:

  • Capture Methodologies
  • Styles and techniques of photography
  • Composition
  • Lenses
  • The difference between full frame and crop sensors
  • How digital photos are processed into file formats such as RAW and JPEG
  • Identify the key aspects of a DSLR/ understanding its settings
  • Lighting techniques
  • Editing Techniques

There is no assessment for this course

A camera will be provided if you do not have your own.

On completion you could study one of our Intermediate Photography courses.

Course Fees: £180 Full Fee Payable.
