Course overview

A motor vehicle service and maintenance technician fixes and services cars and vans, working in dealerships for specific brands or independent garages with various brands. They must work well alone and in teams, and handle customers well. They need to know about laws, business operations, tool maintenance, routine services, diagnosing faults, and advanced vehicle systems like brakes and hybrids. They also work with other departments like Sales and Parts to keep operations smooth.

You will be assessed by your assessor using a portfolio of evidence, practical demonstrations and assignments. You will be assessed both in College and in your place of work

You will be required to provide paper, writing materials, A4 ring binder file, extra wide dividers and clear plastic wallets.

You will study within the workplace and attend classes at Barnsley College’s STEM Centre.

This standard has been designed to be recognised by relevant Professional Engineering Institutions and successful apprentices can apply for the appropriate level of professional registration (EngTech).

 

How much does the course cost?

There is no cost to being an apprentice. All costs associated with your apprenticeship, including the cost of training and your salary, will be paid by your employer.
