This developmental jewellery making course is suitable for students to progress the skills taught on our beginner course and for students with prior experience working with metals such as brass, copper and silver. On this course you will continue to perfect techniques and processes used in jewellery making with the aim of producing wearable items for you to keep. You will be encouraged to add your own creative flair by adapting any design elements to create jewellery with your own aesthetic. Having learnt and practiced some of the techniques of jewellery making in the past, you will have the basis to continue to explore this wide ranging, practical and creative subject and build a unique portfolio of work.

Course content

During the course you will be encouraged to explore your own projects and ideas. You will be inspired to generate projects that enable you to develop the core metalworking skills; cutting, shaping, finishing, and soldering metal, all to a high standard. In your projects you will be encouraged to use a variety of processes and techniques such as ringmaking, stone setting, casting, press forming, etching, metal embossing, chain making and wire work.

The class is taught in a specialist 3D design workshop with dedicated bench space for jewellery. Where appropriate you will be making your jewellery in silver and will incur additional costs for silver of between £10 and £50 depending upon the size and quantity of the work you produce. The use of base metals such as copper and brass are free.

You will work in a dedicated silversmithing workshop and all equipment will be provided. A small charge is incurred for any silver you need.
