This course will start in September 2025 and runs for one year.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English and maths. You will also need to submit a good example of coursework or practical experience in media/multimedia, alongside a successful interview.

You will achieve a Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media Production.

Course overview

This Foundation Diploma programme is designed to help you explore and develop your creative media skills and knowledge. You will gain insights into how the media industry operates and influences society, while building practical skills in areas such as camerawork, editing, and design.

Throughout the course, you will learn how to plan and execute productions, working with high-spec equipment and resources. You’ll also explore a variety of practical and theoretical topics to develop skills.

Course content

You will develop an array of practical skills including editing, design and capturing, as well as using Adobe Creative Cloud. You will also explore key theoretical concepts, including audience analysis, narrative structure, and storytelling, to help you produce high-quality content.

Collaboration is a key part of this programme. You will work in production teams to create a variety of media projects, including radio productions, digital short films and digital designs. You will also develop skills in content creation and marketing, using industry-standard software such as the Adobe Creative Suite.

You will be assessed on your practical work and coursework. Your work is both internally and externally assessed. You will be graded with a Pass or Fail grade.

You will need writing materials, notebook and a USB memory stick.
Learners are encouraged to utilise laptops and tablets in an interactive learning environment.

This course can form the foundations for future study and work in this industry.
After successful completion of this course, you could progress onto one of our Level 3 Diploma or T Level programmes in Media.

Alternatively, you could move onto an apprenticeship and earn while you learn.

How much does the course cost?

16 – 18 year olds

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.
