Entry requirements

• A*- C GCSE (9-4) (or equivalent) in Maths and English
• Good standard of spoken and written English
• Good standard of ICT skills
• Employed in a managerial position or a role that provides opportunities for learners to contextualise and apply the relevant knowledge, skills and behaviours taught within the programme.
• Employed in a full or part-time permanent position.
• Support/Agreement from employer to access a minimum 6 hours per week of learning, during paid working hours.
• Minimum of 2 years supervisory/team leadership experience and/or level 3 qualification in a related subject.

Course content

FdA in Organisational Leadership and Management Modules include:

Enhanced Awareness of Self and Others in a Professional Context covers diverse topics such as learning theories, emotional and social intelligence, communication, and holistic professional development. Students critically evaluate learning theories, analyse emotional and social intelligence models, and emphasise strategic communication for complex professional interactions. The module underscores leadership-level proficiency and holistic development, promoting inclusivity and personal growth with a positive impact on diverse workplaces.

Principle of Personal Management exploring advanced time management tools, effective workload strategies, and aligning personal development goals with organisational strategy. The module emphasises commitment to continuous personal and professional development at an advanced level. Topics include time management, workload strategies, goal alignment, and ongoing personal and professional growth.

Introduction to Professional Communication and Engagement This module aims to boost students’ communication skills, personal presence, and relationship management capabilities. It covers communication fundamentals, analysing strengths and weaknesses in various contexts. Students develop techniques for commanding attention and presenting confidently. Stakeholder engagement principles are explored, along with strategies for cross-functional collaboration. The module fosters a comprehensive understanding of communication and relationship management, promoting inclusive and effective professional engagement.

Financial Management and Procurement offers a deep understanding of strategic financial management and procurement, emphasising aligning financial strategies with organisational goals, evaluating procurement practices, and navigating legal requirements. Learners gain analytical skills for adaptive decision-making in dynamic business environments.

Introduction to Inclusive Leadership explores fundamental leadership concepts and skills, emphasising various leadership styles, especially inclusive leadership. It fosters self-awareness, adaptability, and inclusivity for effective leadership in diverse contexts.

Applied Financial Management and Procurement applies theoretical knowledge from the Financial Management and Procurement module to practical situations. Students gain hands-on skills in budget management, financial data analysis, and cultural awareness for effective decision-making in diverse business environments.

Leading Individuals and Teams builds on foundational knowledge, advancing leadership concepts application in the workplace. It explores coaching, mentoring, organisational dynamics, culture, diversity management, communication, and influential practices for inclusive leadership in diverse environments.

Talent Management and HR Leadership ensuring HR systems comply with legal requirements and well-being needs. Assessing recruitment strategies and reviewing effectiveness. Analysing inclusive talent management practices, identifying strengths and areas for improvement. Recommending approaches for effective recruitment, management, and individual development within the organisational context. Topics include HR compliance, recruitment strategies, talent management, and organisational development.

Operational Strategy and Change Leadership evaluates and coordinates organisational strategies for future success, focusing on risk, quality assurance, and optimising supply chain, workforce, and operational performance. Implementing impactful change with widespread organisational support. Topics include strategic assessment, risk management, quality assurance, supply chain optimisation, and change implementation.

Planning for Evolving Project Dynamics evaluates research methods and data types, demonstrating a solid understanding of research processes. Justifying proficiency in complex dataset analysis, ethical decision-making prioritisation, and applying ethical principles in decision-making scenarios. Assessing organisational values, governance impact on decision-making, diverse risk models, and formulate risk mitigation strategies, particularly in health and safety contexts.

BA Hons in Leadership and Management (Top-Up) includes:

Developing Sales and Marketing Strategies critically evaluates sales theories for effective strategic planning. Justifying market segmentation and proposing strategies for successful market penetration. Emphasising the significance of innovation, recommending organisational approaches for improvement. Interpret customer data to drive desired outcomes and create effective, customer-centric solutions. Topics include sales theory evaluation, market segmentation, innovation, and customer-centric solutions.

Advanced Digital Business and Technologies in a Business Context Critically assesses the impact of innovation and digital technologies on organisations, highlighting challenges and opportunities. Evaluates the strategic use for organisational development, emphasising efficiency and competitiveness. Applying qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques to identify opportunities for innovation and growth, benchmarking against industry standards for continuous improvement. Improving the utilisation through analysing the current state, identifying development areas, and providing actionable recommendations.

Applied Learning Theories Workplace Growth Review delves into advanced learning theories and social-emotional intelligence, critically examining their real-world application in the workplace. Students evaluate foundational theories, reflect on emotional intelligence’s impact, and assess personal and professional development plans for practical career growth.

Collaborative Relationship Management and Effective Communication builds on the Introduction to Professional Communication and Engagement, this module covers advanced communication, relationship management, and collaboration strategies. Topics include negotiation techniques, networking, handling difficult conversations, and inclusive leadership for success in complex professional environments.

The final Work-based Project module sees apprentices predominantly out in the workplace, honing the knowledge, skills and behaviours they have acquired throughout the entire programme through Strategically planning, implementing, and closing a work-based project in a 6-month period. They will design a plan for success, manage resources, and actively implement for effective outcomes. They will track progress through robust methods, analysing data for insightful reports and apply advanced models to proactively identify and mitigate project risks, ensuring overall success.

Students on this programme will be assessed through a blend of formative and summative assessments, designed to align with the programme’s competencies while fostering personal and professional development. Formative assessments, such as workshops, peer reviews and group discussions, provide opportunities for students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios, gain feedback and refine their understanding. These activities encourage critical thinking, collaboration and self-reflection, preparing students for the summative assessments.

Summative assessments include professional discussions, written reports, individual presentations and workplace observations. These tasks are structured to evaluate learners’ ability to apply concepts in real-world settings, ensuring a practical and integrated approach to leadership and management skills. Assessments are tailored to workplace contexts. By integrating tasks into students’ professional roles, the programme builds a robust portfolio of evidence aligned with the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship End Point Assessment requirements.

The assessment journey is scaffolded across levels 4, 5, and 6, progressively advancing students’ skills in reflection, critical analysis and strategic decision-making. This comprehensive approach ensures learners are well-prepared to meet both academic and professional standards, while fostering continuous growth and development.

Finally, students will undergo an end-point assessment that is carried out by an independent body. Students must pass this in order to achieve the apprenticeship. The end-point assessment for the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship involves an assessment of the portfolio of evidence which is collated whilst on-programme. Students will submit a work-based project report and deliver a presentation of the work-based project. Students will also take part in a competency-based interview.

All equipment provided when in College. Laptop will be required for study, research and completing work when not in College.

You can gain Chartered Manager (CMgr) status if you successfully complete your end-point assessment. You could also progress onto a Level 7 Strategic Management and Leadership qualification.

How much does the course cost?

There is no cost to being an apprentice. All costs associated with your apprenticeship, including the cost of training and your salary, will be paid by your employer.

As a Higher Education student living in England you may be eligible for the non-means tested Tuition Fee Loan from the Government and a Maintenance Loan.

Students with children or dependant adults may qualify for a Childcare Grant or Adult Dependants’ Grant. Students can apply for these at the same time as applying for a Maintenance Loan.

Remember: Eligible students will not have to pay tuition fees in advance and can apply for the Maintenance Loan before they start the course.
