Start Date / Duration

This course is due to start on 15 January and will run every Wednesday between 9:15am - 1:15pm for 15 weeks, term-time only.

Entry requirements

You must be aged 19 years or over at the start of the course.

You will achieve

CACHE NCFE Level 2 Understanding Autism.

Course overview

This qualification aims to develop your understanding of autism and the principles of supporting individuals with autism.

Course content

Autism is described by The National Autistic Society as a complex, lifelong developmental disability that typically appears during early childhood and can impact a person’s social skills, communication, relationships and self-regulation. Individual preference regarding terminology used for an individual on the autism spectrum may vary and must be valued and respected.

This course will develop your understanding of autism and the principles of supporting individuals with autism. You will cover the person-centred approach and influence of positive communication methods, how to support positive behaviour, and how individuals with autism can be supported to live healthy and fulfilled lives.

You will study the following modules:

  • Introduction to autism
  • Using a person-centred approach to support individuals with autism
  • Communication and social interaction in individuals with autism
  • Sensory processing, perception and cognition in individuals with autism
  • Supporting positive behaviour in individuals with autism
  • Supporting individuals with autism to live healthy and fulfilled lives

Assessment will be through written assessment & group tasks.

Pen, paper and a digital device would be beneficial for you when producing their assignments although you can access college resources both inside and outside of class time.

This course is FREE for all learners.
