Lead Adult Care Worker Level 3 Apprenticeship

Start Date / Duration

You can start an Apprenticeship at any point during the year. The course will take a minimum of 18 months to complete.

Entry requirements

 

  • You need to be employed within a Health and Social Care setting and have an employer in the area willing to take you on as an apprentice. Please see our Apprenticeship vacancies.  https://www.barnsley.ac.uk/our-departments/apprenticeships/apprenticeship-vacancies/
  • Functional or Key Skills Level 1 or GCSEs at grade A*-C [9-4], in English and maths is desirable but not essential.
  • Apprentices without Level 1 English and maths will need to achieve this level and take the test for Level 2 English and maths prior to completion of their apprenticeship.
  • You will need to provide evidence of a recent DBS disclosure check and evidence of mandatory workplace induction.

Course overview

This apprenticeship is designed for those who want to make a real difference in the lives of individuals facing physical, social, emotional, or intellectual challenges. As a Lead Adult Care Worker, you will support individuals to maintain their independence, dignity, and control, while exercising judgement and taking appropriate action. You’ll work closely with others, championing wellbeing and fostering a professional, supportive environment. Click here for further information regarding the Standard Apprenticeship.

You will:

  • Develop an understanding of roles, responsibilities, and the importance of values and behaviours
  • Support individuals with personal care and tailored support plans
  • Lead and guide colleagues in providing quality care
  • Understand safeguarding, health, and wellbeing practices
  • Communicate effectively and ensuring individuals’ dignity and respect
  • Encourage active participation in decision-making
  • Promote professional development for both yourself and colleagues
  • Complete mandatory Care Certificate standards, delivered in the workplace

Note: You must complete the 15 induction standards in the ‘Care Certificate,’ part of your mandatory workplace induction. The Care Certificate builds on the Common Induction Standards (CIS) and National Minimum Training Standards, and is required for all apprentices. If you have completed the CIS before the Care Certificate’s launch, employers are responsible for identifying gaps to meet the additional standards.

You will usually complete your work using an ePortfolio. You will also complete an end point assessment. This is to measures your skills, knowledge and behaviours as set out in the apprenticeship standard.

Your assessor will make appointments for planned observation visits in the workplace.

You will need access to a computer and the internet.

You will study either in your place or work or at Barnsley College Sci Tech Centre, Falcon Street, Barnsley S70 2EY We usually offer a one day workshop session with your assessor each month.

On successful completion of this apprenticeship you will be a competent and job-ready Lead Adult Care Support Worker. Progression to Level 3 qualifications related to your job role is an option after a period of working and gaining experience, you may be able to work towards a Senior Health and Social Care Support Worker role.

How much does the course cost?

There is no cost to being an apprentice. All costs associated with your apprenticeship, including the cost of training and your salary, will be paid by your employer.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which can be added to your study programme.

If you’re aged 19 or above and don’t hold a a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths we can help. We offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
