While there are no formal entry requirements for this course, you must have a good standard of English and Maths skills.

You will achieve an EAL Level 2 Award in Industrial Environment Awareness.

Course overview

If you are working in the manufacturing and engineering sector, or looking for a role in this industry, the Level 2 Industrial Environmental Awareness Award can increase your skills and knowledge for a wide range of semi-skilled roles, including process workers, wood machinists, boiler operators, metal polishers and forge hands.

This course is suitable if you already be working in the industry but without formal qualifications, completing an apprenticeship, or looking for career progression.

Course content

As part of this course, you will study the following key areas to support working effectively in any industrial environment:

  • Health and Safety
  • Communications
  • Working Effectively
  • Working Relationships
  • Rights and Responsibilities

You will gain:

  • Critical knowledge for employment in an industrial environment
  • A recognition of your knowledge
  • Understanding of safety practices
  • Support in personal development
  • A route to achieving trained operator or semi-skilled status in manufacturing
  • The knowledge and understanding to support the Apprenticeship in Improving Operational Performance

You will be assessed through an online examination

On completion you could continue studying at a higher level or look for employment in the industry.

How much does the course cost?

The course costs £210. Funding may be available depending on your circumstances – see more below.

Extra information

Part-time courses are only available for learners who are 19 years old and above. You may not have to pay for this course if you are employed but earn below £23,400 a year, or if you are unemployed and receive Job Seekers Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit. You will need to provide evidence of your eligibility which will be checked at enrolment.

This course is funded by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and/or West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA). You must be living in the South or West Yorkshire regions to qualify for funding.
