Start Date / Duration

The next start date for this course is September 2025. It will run for 36 weeks. You will attend college Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5.30pm until 8.30pm.

Entry requirements

Students should be at least 19 years old. There are no other entry requirements.

You will achieve

On successful completion of the course, you will receive a Level 2 Certificate in a range of units:

  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Safeguarding and Prevent
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young Peoples Mental Health
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Common Childhood Illnesses
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Behaviour that challenges
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Counselling
  • NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences

Course overview

This course is designed for adults aged 19 and over who wish to return to education and pursue careers in health or childcare.

It preps you for higher-level courses with modules in:

  • Safeguarding and Prevent
  • Understanding Children and Young Peoples Mental Health
  • Understanding Common Childhood Illnesses
  • Understanding Behaviour that challenges
  • Counselling Skills
  • Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences

You can also study Functional Skills or GCSE Mathematics and English.

You will be assessed by online course work and exams in English and Maths.

You will need stationery, a USB stick and a folder.

 

You could progress onto one of our Access to Higher Education programmes.

How much does the course cost?

This course may be FREE to you subject to eligibility criteria. Funding is available for those claiming benefits or on a low wage. (Eligibility criteria applies.)

Extra information

Part-time courses are only available for learners who are 19 years old and above. You may not have to pay for this course if you are employed but earn below £23,400 a year, or if you are unemployed and receive Job Seekers Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit. You will need to provide evidence of your eligibility which will be checked at enrolment.

This course is funded by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and/or West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA). You must be living in the South or West Yorkshire regions to qualify for funding.
