Course overview

This Art and Design Foundation course helps you build creativity through fun projects. You’ll learn essential skills, boost your confidence, and discover career options in the creative industry. The program prepares you for higher education in art, design, and media, enhancing your critical thinking and independence. It’s a great step towards a future in the creative world.

Course content

This course explores a wide range of art and design activities including media experimentation and research. You will carry out a major project which will involve you creating a body of work for exhibition, linked to a personally devised and written project proposal.

Your work will be assessed throughout the course, both internally and by an external moderator. At the end of each studio module you will present a folder of work for discussion and grading.

The final major project is exhibited as part of the Arts Festival in June/July which is open to the public. In order to gain a full Extended Diploma, you must pass all the course units.

You will require a basic personal and portable kit of materials and equipment. General art and design materials and equipment will be available for student use within studios.

Employment – This course can form the foundations for a range of creative occupations including Graphic Designer, Artist, Entrepreneur, Fashion Designer, Interior Design, Product Design and other related roles.

Education – You could progress onto university, studying a variety of art, design, fashion and crafts disciplines or other higher level qualifications such as a Higher National Diploma (HND).

How much does the course cost?

16 – 18 year olds

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

19+ Students
