You will need to hold four GCSEs at grade 3 or above.

UAL Level 2 Award in Performing and Production Arts

Course overview

This one-year foundation course is designed to prepare you for the advanced Level 3 T Level. Students will work alongside Music and Performing arts staff and students, supporting and organising performances and productions. During the course you will develop skills related to being an Events Technician, including:

  • Technical ability
  • Communication
  • Self-confidence

This foundation year equips you with essential knowledge and hands-on experience to kickstart your career.

Course content

Events and Venue Technician specific topics covered may include:

Internal and external client requirements
Planning an event/production
Different stages of an event/production
Use of Industry equipment and/or technology – lighting/sound
Evaluation against client requirements and the opportunities in the creative industries

You will be assessed on a series of coursework, mock exams and practical skills.

You will need to have pens, paper and appropriate clothing for practical activities.

This course is designed to support and prepare students to progress to the T Level – Events and Venues Technician – Coming September 2026.

How much does the course cost?

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

Barnsley College has a range of sports opportunities for all students to take part in, gain professional training and compete nationally and internationally. Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which can be added to your study programme.

If you’re aged 19 or above and don’t hold a a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths we can help. We offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
