You will sit an examination at the end of the course.
This course can be started throughout the year, with a variety of classes available. Evening classes are only available at Level 1 and Level 2. Class attendance will be between 1.5-3 hours per week depending on the level you are enrolled to.. You will also be required to attend College for an initial assessment, mocks and final examinations. You can join this course through out the year. The course can last between 10 weeks and an academic year, depending on your ability.
Functional Skills English qualification.
The qualification is available from Entry 1 to Level 2. It contains a range of units which develop maths and English skills needed in work and life.
These programmes are flexible. If you want to improve your reading, writing and numeracy skills, or want to gain a qualification for the skills you already have, a Skills for Life qualification could be for you. Functional Skills qualifications are designed to help you develop the skills you use in everyday life, such as reading and writing. They can also help you boost your CV or move on to further study.
Functional skills classes run throughout the year. You will need an assessment to determine the level you start at.
You will be advised of the assessment process on application.
These courses help you gain confidence in everyday reading, writing, and speaking. You can develop your spelling and the skills needed for tasks such as form filling and writing short notes.
You will sit an examination at the end of the course.
You will require writing materials and a ring binder.
On completion of these programmes, you may wish to progress to other College courses in either this area or another area of study.
This course is fully funded to anyone who is aged 19+ and does not already have a grade 4/C in this subject. For applicants who do not meet all these criteria, the full cost of the course is £500. This course is funded by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and/or West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA).

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.
If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which can be added to your study programme.
If you’re aged 19 or above and don’t hold a a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths we can help. We offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
