This course will start in September. The course will run for 1 academic year.

Entry requirements

You must be 16 to 18 years of age (or 19 to 25 with an Education, Health and Care plan).

You must hold GCSE English and Maths. One of these qualifications must be a minimum Grade 1 and the other must be a minimum Grade 2.

You will achieve

EAL Level 1 Certificate in Engineering Technologies.

Course overview

This course is perfect for beginners in the electrical industry. You’ll learn safety, electrical science, installation, and technology, plus get 45 days of hands-on experience. It’s a great start for a career or apprenticeship in building services engineering, developed with top employers. You’ll study in a dedicated STEM centre and learn to install and maintain electrical systems safely. The course also offers a broad introduction to engineering technology with a hands-on approach, covering various units including machining, electrical installation, and motorcycle maintenance.

Assessment methods within this qualification include Centre marked practical and theory assessments for all units.

Assessment methods have been designed to assess the knowledge, understanding and skills of learners for each unit.

Successful achievement of this qualification will enable students to progress to the next level in the subject sectors of engineering, motor vehicle or electrical installation.

How much does the course cost?

16 – 18 year olds

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

Barnsley College has a range of sports opportunities for all students to take part in, gain professional training and compete nationally and internationally. You don’t have to be studying sport to get involved in the Sports Academy.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which can be added to your study programme.

If you’re aged 19 or above and don’t hold a a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths we can help. We offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
