This course starts in January 2025. Days and times are variable but will fit around other commitments. This course can be started throughout the year.
You must be aged between 19 and 24 and not currently in education or employment and you want to develop your skills to raise your employment potential.
You will achieve a series of awards aimed at increasing your skills and knowledge to help you progress into further education and gain employment.
PFOUEMPA
In this course, participants will gain employability skills, job search techniques, and health and safety awareness. The curriculum includes retail knowledge, preparing to work in schools, and working in adult social care. It helps individuals identify career goals and provides essential skills for further education and employment opportunities. Students will complete customised qualifications and receive support throughout their journey into education and employment.
The EmpowerED course will kickstart your journey into education and employment by providing key information, advice and guidance (IAG) and career planning. We will then dive into a range of qualifications designed to develop your skills and knowledge which can lead into further study and employment. You will explore a range of qualifications which will be customised to help you achieve your career goals.
You will complete a number of short qualifications to help you to identify aspirational employment potential. You can pick specific units or complete a full programme, in which you will study all of the following:

All equipment will be provided, although to access the online materials you will need access to a phone or computer.
You can progress onto a number of part-time courses at Barnsley College, across a range of different departments, to continue studying. Alternatively you may be ready to move straight into employment.
This course is free
Part-time courses are only available for learners who are 19 years old and above. You may not have to pay for this course if you are employed but earn below £23,400 a year, or if you are unemployed and receive Job Seekers Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit. You will need to provide evidence of your eligibility which will be checked at enrolment.
This course is funded by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and/or West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA). You must be living in the South or West Yorkshire regions to qualify for funding.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.
If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which can be added to your study programme.
If you’re aged 19 or above and don’t hold a a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths we can help. We offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
