Course overview

This course will teach you the basic principles of domestic retrofit, enabling you to identify necessary materials and interpret specific information for work activities. You will gain an understanding of relevant legislation, emergency response, and routine reporting procedures. Furthermore, you will acquire knowledge about the main types of documents used, organizational structures, and practical skills required for basic domestic retrofit installations.

Course content

You will study different units to develop:

The knowledge to identify the main types of documents used in domestic retrofit, typical organisational structures and different types of information and how it is used.
The knowledge to identify the current legislation applicable to domestic retrofit, how to respond to emergencies and typical reporting procedures.
The materials required for work activities in domestic retrofit.
The basic principles for domestic retrofit installations.

Assessment of this unit will be through the completion of a mandatory knowledge assessment (multi-choice questions)

You will need to bring basic stationery items for the theory sessions. All other equipment is provided.

You could progress on to higher study, including HN Flex modules. You may also want to explore other part-time courses for adults.

Extra information

Part-time courses are only available for learners who are 19 years old and above. You may not have to pay for this course if you are employed but earn below £23,400 a year, or if you are unemployed and receive Job Seekers Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit. You will need to provide evidence of your eligibility which will be checked at enrolment.

This course is funded by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and/or West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA). You must be living in the South or West Yorkshire regions to qualify for funding.
