Course content

T Level courses have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses, so the content meets the needs of industry and prepares you for work.

They provide the knowledge and experience needed to open the door to highly skilled employment, an apprenticeship or higher-level study including university.

T Levels are courses for 16 to 18-year-olds that are studied at the same level as A Levels. They are for young people who prefer a more technical education when they come to College, rather than following a purely academic pathway, or a work-based apprenticeship.

T Levels combine classroom theory, practical learning and a minimum of 45-days industry placement with an employer to make sure you have real experience of the workplace.

You will also need to achieve a minimum standard of English and Maths at GCSE grade 4 or above. The Technical Qualification (TQ) is the main classroom-based element of the T Level, and it will see you learning from a qualification that has been shaped by industry experts.

During the two-year programme, you will learn the core knowledge that underpins each industry, and you will also develop occupationally specific skills that will allow you to enter skilled employment within a specific occupation.

The core components are:

  • Health and safety in Construction
  • Construction science principles
  • Construction design principles
  • Construction and the built environment industry
  • Construction sustainability principles
  • Construction measurement principles
  • Building technology principles
  • Construction information and data principles
  • Relationship management in construction
  • Digital technology in construction
  • Construction commercial/business principles

The bricklaying core components are:

  • Fundamental Health and safety regulations, control of noise, and working at height, while working safely across different construction projects.
  • Bricklaying tools and equipment, building regulations and methods of work.
  • Setting out masonry structures and calculating for building resources.
  • Establishing sub and superstructure elements of a building.
  • Finishing and establishing working areas.
  • Calculating both labour and material costs.

There will be assessment windows throughout your study programme where your knowledge, understanding and practical skills will be assessed under exam conditions. You will achieve either a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade. In addition, you must complete an industry placement, lasting a minimum of 315 hours.

Writing and measuring equipment will need to be purchase prior to starting the course. All Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided.
