Construction: Multi-Trade Level 1 Part Time

Start Date / Duration

This course will start in September 2024. You will be required to attend two evenings (Tuesday and Wednesday) per week . Classes will start at 6pm and finish at 9pm.

Entry requirements

No formal qualifications are required.  A keen interest in DIY and construction and a willingness to learn new skills would be advantageous. Maths will be developed carrying out measurements and working out the volume of materials needed.  Health and Safety is embedded in to every activity.

You will achieve

City & Guilds 6219  Certificate in Multi Trade L1.

Course overview

This course is aimed at adults who would like to enter the construction industry or are looking to carry out home maintenance and DIY to industry standards. Participants will study Plastering, Brickwork, and Joinery for 6 weeks at a time before moving on to the next trade. All students will study Health & Safety as part of the course.

This course will help you develop your practical skills in a workshop setting.  At the end of the course learners will have been taught by industry specialists and be able to do basic brickwork, prepare backgrounds for plaster, and carryout surface finishes with both options.  Learner will also learn basic joinery repairs and be able to select correct tools and materials for a range of domestic repairs.

 

Course content

You will carry out practical tasks and assessments in the following topics.

  • Health & Safety
  • Bricklaying
  • Plastering
  • Joinery

You will carry out practice tasks that simulate real working environments using industry practice and materials. You will be assessed by completing practical competence based tasks marked against industry tolerances for each trade.

All Personal protective equipment will be supplied.
All tools and materials will be available and match those used in industry.

You can continue on to a Level 2 qualification in Brickwork, Plastering or Joinery trade, progress into employment as a caretaker/handyperson or apply to be an adult apprentice.

Extra information

Part-time courses are only available for learners who are 19 years old and above. You may not have to pay for this course if you are employed but earn below £23,400 a year, or if you are unemployed and receive Job Seekers Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit. You will need to provide evidence of your eligibility which will be checked at enrolment.

This course is funded by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and/or West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA). You must be living in the South or West Yorkshire regions to qualify for funding.
