You will be assessed continuously throughout your studies and complete a final practical test.
The course has different start dates for different cohorts. Refer to the course description to find out more. The course will take 10 weeks to complete. You will study for one day a week, 8.30am till 4.30pm (term-time only).
You will need to hold either a Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing or Conventional Heating Engineering.
You will become a Heat pump Installer – MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) registration.
Our cutting-edge facility offers hands-on experience with live systems from top manufacturers. After successful completion of the final test at the TMA (The Matrix Academy) centre, you will be more prepared for the industry than any previous delivery method at this level. This all-encompassing program is designed specifically “by installers for installers.” By passing the final practical test, you will quickly become MCS certified and registered with a Certification Body.
The qualification is structured with the following units:
– Introduction to heat pump systems
– Air source heat pump basics
– Low temperature systems, efficiencies and temperatures
– Noise, spacing and external insulation
– Electrical connections, refrigerants and health and safety
– Heat losses, pipe sizing and emitter sizing
– Heat energy, flow rate, pressure loss and pump sizing
– Multiple practical installation, fault finding and commissioning
– Multiple service, repair and maintenance.

You will be assessed continuously throughout your studies and complete a final practical test.
You will need to provide your own:
– work clothes and uniform
– safety boots (to wear in the workshop)
– Comfortable footwear (to wear in the classroom)
The following will be provided but you may bring your own:
– Mechanical tools and hot works
– Battery tools (provided, but may bring your own)
You will be able to install Heat Pumps.
