Course overview

If you’re into catering and hospitality, this course is perfect for you! You’ll start by learning how to cook meat, fish, and poultry, and also make soups, stocks, sauces, and prep veggies. Once you’ve got the basics down, you’ll explore different cooking methods like boiling, poaching, steaming, stewing, braising, baking, roasting, and grilling. It’s a great way to level up your cookery skills!

Lessons take place in our kitchens that are designed to replicate industry kitchens. While this course is very practical, theory elements will underpin the skills you learn in practical lessons for example teaching you about food safety, hygiene and healthy eating.

We run a very professional department and your uniform and equipment is integral to that professionalism.

You will be given a list of the equipment and uniform you will be expected to provide, but you may be able to purchase this through applying to the College’s Learner Support Fund. We use a local supplier who gives a good discount to all our students.

Upon completion, you could progress onto further study such as our Level 2 Culinary Skills or  Level 2 Certificate in Food Preparation and Cookery courses.
