Course overview

This qualification covers understanding and internally assuring the quality of assessment, as well as planning, allocating and monitoring work in your own area of responsibility.

This specification includes the qualifications for internal and external quality assurers (previously internal and external verifiers). They were needed to meet the emerging needs of the developing qualification frameworks and to reflect changes in the practice of assessment.
These qualifications replace the V1 and V2 qualifications. They are part of the new suite of qualifications for assessors, internal quality assurers (IQA) and external quality assurers (EQA). These qualifications will be required for:
  • Assessors and verifiers involved in National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) for the next three years. Those who deliver these qualifications will need to be qualified to meet the requirements of the NVQ Code of Practice and Sector Skills Councils assessment strategies.
  • Assessors and quality assurance staff who deliver qualifications that use the term ‘NVQ’ in their title will also need these qualifications.
  • Depending on the assessment strategies set by individual Sector Skills Councils,some staff, who are assessing and quality assuring  qualifications within the that do not use the term ‘NVQ’ in their titles, but whose purpose is to confirm occupational competence, will need to hold IQA or EQA qualifications.

Course content

This qualification will be delivered through a variety of activities and one to one tutorials.

The course consists of the following modules:

  • Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internally Assessing the Quality of Assessment
  • Internally Assure the Quality of Assessment

You will study:

  • Understand the principles and planning of the internal quality assurance of assessment
  • Understand how to manage information related to the internal quality assurance of assessment
  • Understand the legal and good practice requirements of internal quality assurance of assessment
  • Plan and internally evaluate the quality assurance of assessment
  • Internally maintain and improve quality of assessment
  • Manage information related to the internal quality of assurance of assessment
  • Maintain legal and good practice when internally monitoring quality assurance of assessment

You will be assessed through the coursework you produce and activities you will take part in.

No specialist equipment required.

You will study in your workplace.

Course fees: £500 full fee payable.
