We are marking our 30th anniversary of Access to Higher Education (HE) in Health Professions with an adult open day for those interested in the field.
The event aims to unite alumni from the last thirty years of the Level 3 Access to HE in Health Professions programme, alongside anyone interested in studying the course and progressing onto a career in healthcare, such as a Midwife, Nurse or Paramedic.
“This event is incredibly valuable for anyone thinking about starting a journey to work within healthcare as they can come and speak to people who originally started in their position.”
Taking place on Wednesday 5 June at The Open Kitchen based at the Old Mill campus, 10.30am – 2.00pm, this event offers you a unique opportunity to engage with over 25 alumni students pursuing careers as Physiotherapists, Specialist Nurses and more.
Among the alumni attending are Wayne Corbett, a former police officer now working as a paramedic for South Yorkshire Ambulance, and Stephen Hallas, formerly in construction and now serving as a Mental Health Nurse Specialist within the Wakefield District Health and Care Partnership.
Melissa Watkin, who completed the Level 3 Access to HE in Nursing program in XX, currently holds the position of Designated Clinical Officer and Strategic Health Lead for Children and SEND at Kirklees Place West Yorkshire ICB.
She expressed her gratitude for the course: “My career journey so far has been very successful and for that, I am grateful – without the College’s Access to HE courses, none of this would have been possible.
“I cannot thank the tutors, particularly Viv Herbert, for their support and encouragement at the beginning of my nursing journey.”
With the demand for skilled healthcare professionals on the rise, there has never been a better time to invest in a career within the Healthcare industry.
For three decades, we have offered the Level 3 Access to HE in Health Professions course under various titles, all aimed at reintroducing adults to education and equipping them for degree-level study, but ultimately leading to careers in healthcare.
Access to HE in Health Course Leader, Viv Herbert, has taught the course since the launch of the course back in 1994. She added: “This event is incredibly valuable for anyone thinking about starting a journey to work within healthcare as they can come and speak to people who originally started in their position.”
The event will take place on Wednesday 5 June, 10.30am – 2.00pm at The Open Kitchen at Barnsley College, Church Street, Barnsley, S70 2AX. For more information, visit the event listing.
