College student nails third place in competition

The college hosted a regional SkillBuild competition for another year running at the purposed built Construction Centre CUBE, where student Krisztofer Seres placed third.

SkillBuild is a UK-wide competition for construction students and apprentices to compete in their trades. Students from other colleges were in attendance to compete in bricklaying, plastering, tiling, painting, carpentry and joinery, cabinet making, drylining and tiling trades.

Krisztofer Seres, a Level 3 Bricklayer student at the college took third place for the bricklaying trade. He said: “I felt good about it. I have been practicing for two months. When I found out I placed third, I was surprised at first, but I was really excited.”

Eight other students from the College competed in the bricklaying and plastering categories. Students and staff from across the College and local community showed support to all competitors. The Mayor of Barnsley, Councillor Michael Stowe and Mayoress Elaine Stowe were also in attendance and got a tour of the centre’s facilities and the different trades competing. They showed support for the students work and spoke with SkillBuild and the College’s construction staff.
