The College is participating in the annual Christmas Dinner for Care Leavers Barnsley project.

Organised and supported by a steering group of volunteers and organisations, the project provides free Christmas dinners to young care leavers in Barnsley to ensure no-one has to spend the festive season alone.

The Christmas Dinner, set to take place on Wednesday 25 December, is supported by various fundraising events and activities throughout the year. These efforts will help raise the necessary funds to make the dinner a memorable occasion.

Sponsors, including local businesses, have kindly contributed to the fundraiser. Barnsley College’s Learning for Living and Work department organised some fundraising activities, such as a ‘Name the Elf’ raffle with a chocolate hamper prize, a Temple Spa luxury raffle and has contributed other donations.

The College’s Catering students have also been busy spreading festive cheer by crafting individually decorated Christmas cakes for care leavers. This project showcases the skills of our students whilst supporting the local community.

Beth Goodliffe, Chair of the Barnsley project who has personal experience as a care leaver, said: “Thank you so much to the College for once again supporting the Christmas Dinner for Care Leavers Barnsley.

“It makes such a difference to these young people, who would otherwise spend the day alone.  Providing them with a lovely day, dinner and gifts shows people care.

“We couldn’t do this without the support of people and organisations like Barnsley College. Your generous donation will really help to make them feel cared for and bring joy to the day.

“A huge well done to everyone involved – your hard work and creativity are truly inspiring!”

Nicola Thomson-Dewey, Head of the Learning for Living and Work department at Barnsley College, added: “It is heartwarming to see the community come together to support care leavers during the festive season. The generosity and effort put into this project truly reflect the spirit of Christmas.”
