Barnsley Sports Academy nets partnership with Silkstone Swifts Netball Club

Netball students posing with netball

We are delighted to announce that the College will be working in partnership with Silkstone Swifts Netball Club to provide an exciting new opportunity to students interested in netball.

Silkstone Swifts Netball Club was established in January 2022. Since then, it has grown exponentially, with netball squads in all age groups from U9s to U16s available. The new agreement could open doors for the players to progress onto 16 – 21 age group and play for the Barnsley Sports Academy netball team in the Association of Colleges (AoC) Sport Yorkshire and Humber Netball League and Cup.

College students who are looking to get a foothold in netball will have the opportunity to play in showcase games, enjoy a match day experience and coaching sessions from Silkstone Swifts Netball Club. They offer high quality coaching and compete in the South and West Yorkshire leagues.

Luke Forgione, Sports Performance and Athlete Development Co-ordinator at the College, said: “We are pleased to partner with Silkstone Swifts Netball Club, a club that has a passion for netball and puts the development of their players at heart. This ethos is key. When the College chooses an organisation to work in partnership with, it’s important that our vision and ethos align.

“The club has done fantastically well in such a short space of time to create a pathway for girls to play netball in Barnsley to a high standard. The club has been using our facilities as its home and is a no brainer for us to partner with the club. Hopefully over the next few years we will see Swifts players transitioning to College to represent our Netball Academy but also more importantly further their education to achieve academic and sporting excellence.”

You don’t have to be studying sport to be a part of our Sports Academy – all students are welcome. Our Sports Performance Academies include Football (male and female), Golf Academy, Rugby Union, Refereeing, Basketball, Netball, Cricket, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Health and Fitness, Inclusive Academy, Futsal, Individual Athlete Academy and Esports.
